Throughput
Speed & flow
What it measures
The number of pull requests merged per week, counting only human-authored PRs.
Why it matters
Throughput is the team's delivery cadence — how often finished work actually lands. Tracked over time it shows whether the team is speeding up, slowing down, or holding steady.
How to read it
- Look at the trend, not any single week — weekly counts are naturally bumpy.
- Read it next to Defect ratio: more merges only helps if quality holds.
- A drop can mean larger PRs, more review wait, or simply fewer, bigger pieces of work.
Anti-blame
A team-level weekly count. There is no per-author breakdown, by design.
Common misreads
- More merged PRs does not mean more value — PR size varies enormously.
- Throughput is not productivity; it is cadence.
